It’s Friday! And it’s also back-to-school time. So I thought this Friday definitely needed CUPCAKES! Cupcakes make me happy, and continuing on from my TTT post (here), I am all about the happy these days.
I’ve just returned from a vacation/book promo visit to Indiana. This is the setting for my debut novel Chasing Eveline. I did an event in Indy and then spoke to eight classes of students up in Fort Wayne. While I was there, I of course had to find a cupcake shop to see if anyone can dethrone Susie Cakes as my favorite. I tried one from Gigi’s Cupcakes while I was in Carmel. This is what I had (photo from the Gigi’s web site):
The tower of frosting was amazing. I enjoyed the taste, too. However, it still did not surpass the dense, thick cake of Susie Cakes. In cupcakes, it’s all about the cake part. Most anyone can make a decent frosting. The cake sells it to me. This one was a little airy. Better than store-bought, but still with hints that reminded me of store-bought cupcakes.
Anyway, the flavor was awesome. So I thought I’d search for a recipe for Strawberry Shortcake cupcakes. I didn’t find one with the strawberry cake part as I had a Gigi’s, but this one from Chocolate With Grace looked yummy to the max. What to you think? If you make them, leave a comment and let me know how they were!
