Grand Re-Opening

written by Leslie January 15, 2017

They said it would be easy. No web site experience needed. Just the click of a button.

I’m here to tell you this: they are wrong.

Changing over to a self-hosted web site is not the clear sailing on a sunny day that they say it is. It’s more akin to being alone in a wooden boat in the middle of the Pacific Ocean 3,000 miles from shore during a thunderstorm. Or have you seen Tom Hanks in Castaway? It’s that. One click is not just one click. It’s about ten clicks, three headaches, and two near tearful explosions. A simple download is not a simple download. And ever been limited to 6 different email addresses you do not even own to have a very important validation email sent to you?

Well, that’s a snapshot of my experience. And I didn’t even include the tearful emails to my previous host, begging and imploring them to just “help me put it back the way it was.”

But, I brought in reinforcements and figured it out. I’m happy I did. I think. Anyway….(drumroll)….

Here it is. Please enjoy. And also please excuse the archived posts that haven’t yet been corrected. That’s because an import isn’t just an import either.
