Music Match-Up #4

written by Leslie April 13, 2017

Music Match-Up is back! This is a weekly(ish) celebration of books and music. I take a book and pair it with a song that either reminds me of the book, has a similar feel to it, or maybe just has a random connection that only makes sense to me. This week’s pairing is mostly about the feels…

Withering Tights // “Know Your Onion!”

This series by Louise Rennison follows Tallulah Casey and her (mis)adventures at summer performing arts camp. She just so happens to be the cousin of Georgia Nicolson. (If you haven’t read that series and you like to laugh, what are you waiting for???) This series is just as funny. There are bearded cheese-making villagers, wildlife, the Tree Sisters, and of course, boys. If you’ve ever done something awkward in front of a boy you like, you’ll love Tallulah.

Tallulah and her mates are so quirky, they remind me of the sound of The Shins. “Know Your Onion!” just sounds like something Tallulah would blurt out in the middle of her rehearsal or when she’s fumbling in front of Charlie. It also seems like the kind of song she would dance her Sugar Plum Bikey performance to– her ballet based on the Sugar Plum Fairy only done on a bicycle. And then there’s also her Irish dancing solo. She’s made for The Shins.
