Ode to Truffles
a poem for Molly
O! Little bite of chocolate,
So velvety and smooth.
A bite, and then I wait
As you become
A rich, chocolate blanket covering
My tongue.
I smile.
And I marvel at you,
So dense and luscious.
You are small but stronger
And more satisfying
Than the biggest piece of chocolate cheesecake.
You have no need for fillings,
Crunchy, chewy distractions
That others use to cover up
Their chocolate weaknesses.
You are enough to satisfy
The deepest, most desperate desire for
Sweetness.
It’s best to experience you
In silence.
“Shhh,” I say to others
As I close my eyes,
Attuned to the
Buttery,
Sugary,
Silky smoothness
Of this
Chocolate
Bite
Of
Perfection.
You are like a dream come true,
A paradise discovered and never lost,
A sweet song sung just for me.
O! little Truffle,
I took a bite and
For a moment-
Just a moment-
I thought I was in
Heaven.
