Row upon row they stand, each one of equal size and shape. From afar, they all look the same, identical markers dotting the lawn. But they are not the same. Each one has a different name, a different collection of letters and numbers that is like no other. These deaths are not just a statistic. For each death, we have enjoyed a moment with our families or a day of learning at school or a baseball game on a hot summer day. Every moment of freedom we have enjoyed has been paid for by each one of these markers.
So take a look, these are not identical stone markers. This is a summary of all the special moments in your life. Remember to say, “Thank you.”
