A Mixed-Tape Love Poem
by Leslie Hauser
Crazy how you make it all alright love.
You quench my heart, and you quench my mind-
All I could hope is to have you.
I was kissing you, you were kissing me—and
I saw sparks
Turn into something beautiful.
I don’t want to move a thing, it might change my memory.
All I want is you, and
To die by your side, such a heavenly way to die.
Though colors crash, collide in bloodshot eyes,
Here I am, and I’ll wait in line always.
Each moment the more I love you,
You drive me to distraction.
I shall miss these things when it all rolls by.
Was I a fool to think you’d take me home as if I were yours?
With all the promises we break, from the cradle to the grave,
(“I won’t let you down” – yes, I will)
A strange fear gripped me and I just couldn’t ask.
Oh what a thing to do…but still
In a haze of stormy haze, I’ll be ‘round.
I won’t leave, I can’t hide, I cannot be until you’re resting here with me.
If I could, I would let it go—
This desperation,
dislocation,
separation,
condemnation,
revelation,
temptation,
isolation,
desolation,
I’m wide awake- I’m not sleeping.
