Happy Tuesday! I’m starting to feel thankful already…thankful that at this time next week, I’ll be on vacation! I’m also thankful for these Top Ten Tuesdays, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is Top Ten Books I Want My Future Children to Read (Or nieces and nephews, Godchildren, etc.). I thought I would compile a list of books for all stages of life that I think every kid should read.
Top Ten Required Books for All Stages of Life
Picture Books/Littlest Readers
10. What Do People Do All Day?
Anything Richard Scarry is a must
9. The Poky LIttle Puppy
This is the book that I wanted to read after a long period of refusing to read. So it must be magical!
8. Stellaluna
Such a great message. And there’s a stuffed animal to go with it!
7. The Day the Crayons Quit
As someone who adamantly believes in the strict use of colors, this was a good book for me to read. As an adult lol.
Young Readers
6. The Tale of Despereaux
It may be because I have recently been teaching this novel to 6th graders and it is such a joy. It’s entertaining, can foster deep thinking, and has a great message.
5. Maniac Magee
Ditto for this one. I taught this for many years and it had a great effect upon middle school kids.
4. Freak the Mighty
Guilty as charged. Lol. Yes, I taught this one, too. And ditto the others.
Older Readers
3. Out of the Dust
2. The Kite Runner
1. Parrot in the Oven
Okay, so there are so many books that young adults to adults “should” read, I couldn’t possibly narrow it down. So I’ve just listed three that had a profound effect on me because of the beautiful writing and storytelling.
