TV Review
Younger is the story of 40-year-old Liza, newly divorced, who wants to get back into the publishing business after being away to raise her daughter. When she’s passed over for being too old, she decides to pass herself off as a 26-year-old to land a job. She does at Empirical Publishing, and now she must make sure no one finds out the truth.
I fell in love instantly with this show. I’d call it a mash-up of The Devil Wears Prada mixed with a little Gilmore Girls and a bit of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. It’s got the uptight, demanding boss and younger assistants of The Devil Wears Prada. It’s got the fast-talking, witty dialogue of Gilmore Girls. And there’s the snarky Brooklyn friend and secret life of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I can relate with both the millennial aspect of it (because I pretty much have the emotional maturity of a 20-something lol) but I can also relate to the funny commentary about millennials from the older characters. Plus there’s…Josh. Nico Tortorella is a delicious sight for the eyes, and his character Josh is pretty much the best TV-boyfriend ever invented. Sure there have been a couple of “close calls” that nearly outed Liza and were avoided a little too conveniently, but that’s about the only negative thing I can say about this show. I mean, I watched 18 episodes in one day! (#TeacherLife). So, I’d say that’s a definite LOVE IT from me!
Younger airs on TV Land Tuesday nights at 10. It’s currently airing its 5th season and will be back for a 6th!
